Australian Open 2015: Andy Murray beats Tomas Berdych to reach Grand Slam Final

Andy Murray brought his A-game after loosing the first set from Tomas Berdych who was being coached by Andy’s former coach Vallverdu

Andy Murray slipped down the sixth spot at the start of this year’s rating. He came into the Australian Open 2015 with little anticipation. He was training with Amelie Mauresmo who has played her fair share of tournaments after the loss of his own coach Dani Vallverdu. He had only lost one set terribly since he started playing in this tournament but he was daunted by another.

Berdych was not only being coached by Vallverdu, he had not lost a single match in the tournament and his spirits were high after he beat Nadal after 9 years so the Czech player looked to be in great spirits. So when both the players stepped in the court, they had their own strategies to play the game and win for sure.

The match started with Berdych taking the lead much by anticipation of how Murray will play. That was where Vallverdu might have played a role. However, Murray gave him a run for his money as they played a game after game equaling the points much like Kyrgios had done when Murray started to beat him in the quarter final. Berdych came out victorious at the end of first set, beating Murray 7-6.

It was Murray’s turn to amp up his game in the second set. He turned the same way as he had done with Kyrgios. With some impressive lobs, especially the running ones he had played so brilliantly against the young Aussie in his last match, Murray took an impressive lead over Berdych so much so that Berdych was struggling to keep up and hardly scored a single match as Murray won the set to love for Berdych.

Looking to redeem himself, Berdych tried so hard to beat Murray with some forward hand smashes but Murray’s lob prevailed once more and with double fault on the net, Berdych only scored three games in 75 minutes while Murray took the third set as well.

It was down to the last set for Berdych to save his grace and Murray to move on. It was his game to win now as Murray saved a break-point, got a warning for ball time and drive Berdych to reach the breakpoint at 5-5. With Berdych’s serve Murray hit a third groundstroke flying and that was it for the Czech pro.

Murray will now be playing his next match with the winner of Novak Djokovic vs. Stanislas Wawrinka semifinal. This is the 6th time Murray will reach the final of the tournament. Will this be the year that Murray will finally win it all?
