BBC drops Top Gear over Jeremy Clarkson Punching Producer

The legendary Top Gear automobile TV show suffers a major scandal. BBC kills remaining episodes of the current season.

The BBC is dropping the remainder of the current Top Gear TV show. The news comes after BBC announced to suspend Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson. Clarkson has reportedly punched a producer of the show. BBC calls the incident a “fracas.” The British tend to use polite words.

Jeremy Clarkson has been part of the Top Gear presenters since 2002. It is not his first scandal. Last year Clarkson has used a racial slur and a racist term in two incidents. BBC put him on probation already back then. Now he got booted off the show, but his fans already try to change BBC’s mind. There are online petition started by the Guido Fawkes blog that has already over 220,000 signatures.

Clarkson has posted one Tweet a couple hours ago that refers to the controversy. He said: “Sorry Ed. It seems I knocked your “I’m a human” piece down the news agenda.” He refers to the Labour party leader Ed Miliband who faces personal attacks from the Tories.

He also engaged with co-host James May in coming up with film suggestions that could be broadcasted instead of Top Gear the next weeks. Suggestions included 633 Squadron and Where Eagles Dare.

If the fan support will bring Jeremy Clarkson back in the next season remains to be seen. He has not made an official statement yet and there are no in-depth details on what really happened at the Top Gear set.

Top Gear launched in 2002 with hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. The extremely successful motor show has spawn national version that launched in 2010.
