Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 4 is still several months away from launching, but it’s already easily one of the most hotly anticipated launches of the year. Adding a tantalizing new dimension to the story is the increasing likelihood that this will be the first Samsung phablet that will go head to head with a similarly sized iPhone. We have already seen several leaks that began to paint a picture of what we can expect from the Note 4 later this year, and now one of the device’s most important features /4/have just been revealed.

FROM EARLIER: Galaxy Note 4′s monster specs have already leaked

This year’s flagship Galaxy S5 is a decidedly unexciting device, and BGR has heard from several sources that sell-through has fallen well short of expectations in some regions. Compounding matters is the fact that Samsung’s CFO recently warned that the company’s second-quarter earnings will likely be “not that good.”

There was one area in particular where the Galaxy S5 surprised us all, however. In a recent series of expert tests, the S5 topped several other leading camera phones including the iPhone 5s and Lumia 1020 to tie for the best-performing smartphone camera in the world.

With Samsung having now established itself as a camera phone leader, interest in its future cameras has no doubt increased. And now, a new report /4/have revealed details surrounding the Galaxy Note 4′s camera.

According to a report from ET News, which has a mixed track record but has reported accurate early information surrounding unannounced Samsung devices numerous times in the past, the Galaxy Note 4 will include a new 12-megapixel camera unit with optical image stabilization.

The move would be a curious one, since Note-series phablets have previously launched with the same camera modules found in the corresponding Galaxy S handsets. According to the report, however, Samsung opted for a 12-megapixel unit in order to keep the device’s housing as thin as possible.
