The SNL 40 show on Sunday was a great TV event that could have had a controversial moment, but it did not happen because of Eddie Murphy.

The SNL 40 anniversary show was the TV highlight of the year after the Super Bowl. Over 20 million tuned in to see the star studded tribute to the long running show. Former SNL member Norm McDonald took to Twitter yesterday to reveal what could have happen at the SNL 40 show if Eddie Murphy would not have said no.

Eddie Murphy’s appearance on SNL was history in the making. He has not been on SNL for over 3 decades. According to McDonald there was the idea for Murphy to impersonate Bill Cosby in the hilarious Jeopardy sketch hosted by Will Ferrell. Norm McDonald revealed in his series of Tweets that he tried to convince Murphy to do this sketch, but in the end Eddie Murphy said that he is not kicking a man who is down.

Bill Cosby is accused of sexual assault by over 20 woman. So far he has not been charged and he still denies the allegations, but his image has been damaged considerably.

Norm McDonald ends is reveal on Twitter with the message: “Eddie Murphy is the coolest, a rockstar even in a room with actual rockstars.”

NBC News reports that a Bill Cosby spokesperson said: “I am very appreciative of Eddie and I applaud his actions.”

SNL 40 definitely did not need a joke on Bill Cosby’s cost. Watch below the NBC News report about this.

NBC published an SNL app that is offering access to the archives of Saturday Night Live. You can watch any sketch. In addition it also offers the SNL 40 show. The free SNL App also works internationally.
