Bill Hader left SNL last season along with his co-stars and since then the viewership has been dwindling but he returned to host the show and failed miserably.

Saturday Night Live used to be a hit with the audience featuring its comedic sketches, refreshing performances and the occasional appearances by celebrities and bands. SNL was the best Saturday night entertainment for a long time. We have also seen some great performers come across the show such as Andy Samberg, Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Fred Armisen, Jason Sudeikis and Seth Meyers.

The viewership for SNL had been dwindling for a long time now and it looked like the stars felt that and last season we witnessed the regulars like Hader, Samberg and Meyers leave the show and the show faced major setbacks regarding live viewer-ship.

As the show stepped into its new season this year it was already facing a setback with all its regular performers missing. They were the life of the show and no celebrity could bring back the viewers to watch the show. Even Charlize Theron failed to score viewer-ship when she hosted the show in /4/this year and the show earned its lowest rating ever.

Bill Hader finally returned to host the show last night to perform with Kristen Wiig. They tried to revive favorite characters including party promoter Stefon to senile reporter Herb Welch to Wiig’s Kathie Lee Gifford impression.

Seemed like Hader went on an all out to bring back the audience but ended up doing the complete opposite. After Bill’s show, Charlize Theron’s rating on the show became the second worse episode in the show’s history because Bill Hader scored the lowest viewer-ship ever.

The show with a 18-49 demographic went as low as 3.9-1.8. Those statistics are ten percent less than even the last week’s episode. Even with Bill’s and Kristen’s hard work and Hozier performing, they lacked the glam factor that brings the audience in.

Only the true SNL fans watched to see Hader perform but other viewers were not watching the show and that led to the lowest ratings for the show recorded in history.

There are reasons for the declining viewer-ship which include that people could just watch it online the next day but all cannot be blamed on the Internet.

The producers have to re-think the format, advertising and production strategies before there is no show left to rate. Jim Carrey would be making an appearance next Saturday and we can only hope that the show survives with Jim’s humor and wit.
