Bitcoin joins payment methods at TigerDirect

Another major online seller accepts bitcoin

TigerDirect is an online store that has been around for years and years. The company is famous for selling computer hardware that allows enthusiasts to build their own computers. PC Hardware isn’t all the company is about though; it also has TVs, gadgets, and a lot of other stuff.

TigerDirect has become the latest major online seller to start taking bitcoin as a form of payment reports Coin Desk. The first seller to accept bitcoin was Overstok.com. TigerDirect is only taking bitcoin online; its retail stores are not taking the virtual currency.

The payment processor for TigerDirect is BitPay and Tiger is now BitPay’s biggest client. Any payments made with Bitcoin are instantly turned into normal money. The IRS and state sales tax divisions get their share of the money just like any other payment method.

“TigerDirect has always been on the forefront of alternative online payment methods and delivering the most convenient ways for our customers to shop,” said Steven Leeds, TigerDirect’s Director of Corporate Marketing.

“With individuals building their own high-powered PCs with parts offered on our site to mine bitcoins, it’s a logical fit.”
