BlackBerry is on the move. Following the announcement of its new smartphones, the company unveiled a new tablet at CeBIT 2015 in Germany. It’s the second time around for the Canadian smartphone maker; it launched the PlayBook tablet in 2011, only to be brushed aside for its poor design and user interface. But under its new CEO—John Chen—BlackBerry overcame adversity and focused on businesses and enterprises.
The same vision allowed BlackBerry to acquire Secusmart, a German security communications firm, in 2014. We’re now seeing the fruits of the acquisition: the new SecuTablet. BlackBerry partnered with Samsung to develop a security-focused version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5, integrating security technologies such as voice and data encryption.
BlackBerry also worked with IBM to provide app wrapping technologies on the tablet, allowing the device to separate work applications from personal apps. This means that applications like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube are secured and encrypted, protecting the privacy of its users. BlackBerry markets the SecuTablet as the ideal tablet for national and international businesses and markets. The company says that the tablet will hit stores this summer for around $2,380.
