BMW will also include BMW i3 and BMW i8 at the Detroit auto show. BMW was very successful in its launch of the electric powered BMW i3 and the BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sports car. Due to this success the company has decided to expand its range of services focusing on every aspect of electric mobility and rolling them out internationally.

With these two models, BMW i is offering its customers not only a choice of electric vehicles but also far reaching complementary products in order for the cars to provide them a long term service. For example take ChargeNow which is a charging and payment service which enjoys a steady expansion.

The network of DC fast charging stations in the US is continuing to expand due to the introduction of the BMW i DC fast charger. This is the industry’s first wall-mounted DC fast charger. Plus the ParkNow web and app based service helps the BMW i drivers to find a space when they need one.

ParkNow offers car park and roadside parking spaces across North America and can even filter the results of searches according to price, distance and availability of services. Then there is the ‘second-life’ pilot projects in the US, China and Germany that allow lithium-ion batteries from BMW i vehicles to be used as stationary energy storage devices after their useful life on the road comes to an end. So the BMW I series look to make a huge impact at this year’s NAIAS.
