The Coen brothers take a jab at online streaming companies such as Netflix and Amazon at Cannes Film Festival 2015!
The Coen brothers have been a part of the Cannes Film Festival for over a decade. The director brothers Coen’s are going to be in the head panel this year and appeared in a press conference for the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday.
At the conference Joel Coen was asked what he thinks about the rise of internet based online film companies such as Netflix and Amazon and the impact they are having on the industry. Joel Coen gave a much deadpanned reply by repeating the question in his perception as how he feels about people watching the Lawrence of Arabia on their iPhones, to which the crowd snickered.
Joel Coen then stated he believes siting in a crowd and watching a movie on a big screen about 80 foot as definitely more special and nothing can compete with that. Joel Coen also declared its Film Festival likes Cannes that is keeping the tradition of watching a movie on a big screen alive.
The Coen brothers /4/not be big fans of online viewing but the trend has been gaining momentum by the minute. Several organisers at Cannes have also embraced new technologies and on Friday one of the key speaker Ted Sarandos, chief content officer at Netflix is slated to discuss how online viewing is changing the movie financing game.
The panel will also be consisting of commercial actors such as Jake Gyllenhaal, Sienna Miller and Sophie Marceau and popular director Guillermo Del Toro. Jake Mr Gyllenhaal shared how excited he is to be seeing films before everyone else and for free and Del Toro shared how on his first trip to the Cannes Film Festival he did not have hair coming out of his ears.
