CBS All Access is Available Now

CBS launched the CBS All Access streaming service giving you access to over 6,500 TV Show episodes for $5.99 per month.

HBO announced a stand-alone streaming service that will launch in 2015. CBS also announced a streaming service, but it is already launched. You can try the CBS All Access service now free for 1 week. After that it is $5.99 per month. The CBS All Access service has over 6,500 TV Show Episodes in store and new episodes are added the next day.

The CBS All Access service is available through CBS.com and on mobile devices with the CBS app. The advantage of the subscription are the mobile access, the classic show library, Live TV option in select markets, access to past shows and seasons of current shows and fewer ads per episode.

That there are still ads despite paying a subscription fee is kind of sick. There are no ads on Netflix.

Americans cut the cord, but the question is with all these TV channels starting to offer their own streaming service will at the end consumers pay more? At some point a cable TV subscription might be the better deal.

It is also going to be a pain to have an app for each TV channel. The Netflix model is the more consumer friendly approach. Ideally CBS would just go to Netflix and partner with them. Customers could then decide inside Netflix to add CBS to get their latest content for a premium on their Netflix subscription. I think that is the future.

It is a different story with HBO because of their movie licenses. HBO directly competes with Netflix and could turn out to be a major threat in 2015.
