Chevy engineers invented a more aerodynamic badge for the 2014 Camaro Z/28

Flowtie emblem helps Z/28 Camaro maintain its aerodynamics

Chevrolet has been pulling out all the stops with its track focused Camaro cars of late. One of the more impressive Camaros in recent memory is the ZL1 Camaro that has a supercharger under the hood. Chevy is also bringing the Z.28 name back as a track focused machine to combat the Mustang and other cars on the track.

The engineers that are part of the Z/28 program worked very hard on the aerodynamics of the car. In fact, they worked so hard they even looked at the traditional bowtie emblem on the grill as a place to make improvements reports Motor Authority.

Traditionally the bowtie in the grille of Chevy models is solid. On the Z/28, that bowtie emblem is called the flowtie and is hollow to allow air to pass through and improve the aerodynamics. The flowtie is better than removing the badge altogether and the open design helps the car stay cool on the track.

The Z/28 also has vents on the hood to let hot air exit and a number of other aerodynamic tidbits. Chevy says hat at 150mph the Z/28 generates 440 pounds of downforce. The front splitter of the car can handle 250 pounds of downforce at the tips. The rear spoiler is also fitted with a wickerbill to improve high-speed stability. The engine under the hood of the car produces 505hp and has a 6-speed manual.
