Cindy Crawford and her significant other shelled out a whopping $30,000 for an explicit photograph featuring a nude.
It is basically a fine art photo of a couple of nude women that are wearing horse head masks. The carefully constructed horse head masks were made by Brian Bowen Smith. He, of course, is the apprentice of Herb Ritts. Cindy and her hubby Rande Gerber had just come back from attending the wedding party of George Clooney. They made a beeline for the show.
Cindy had done nude modeling for the late Herb in the late 80s. She, along with a bevy of models, had posed in various states of undress for the great photographer. Meanwhile, Smith’s “Wildlife” exhibition, which portrayed nudes in animal masks, kept the real celebs behind the masks a trade secret.
Among the list of people who arrived in scads to see the show /4/be included Hilary Swank, Adrien Brody, Tyra Banks, Demi Moore, Joe Jonas and Michelle Rodriguez.
Brian Bowen Smith stood next to Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber for a photo during the show. It was a remarkable success as far as standard Hollywood exhibitions are concerned. The portraits have shock value and are a bit bizarre not to mention surreal. They lend a weird atmosphere to the whole scenario depicted so clearly.
Most of the pics were taken at the beach and so there’s a lot of surf and sand. There is one of a squatting nude woman who is wearing a grotesque and scary mask of a creature that is a cross between a wild boar and an elephant. It seems that nowadays anything goes.
So long as it is odd things that get created, the artist has a guarantee of approval. And this is sad. Seeing the fact that so many die of hunger on the streets of Calcutta, to see an LA exhibition where a stupid picture is sold for $30,000 is truly the biggest shock of all. It is almost as depressing as seeing women in the West who are bulimic eat large buffets and then vomit the contents of their bellies in washrooms, while people die of starvation in sub-Saharan Africa.
