Guillermo del Toro’s new horror flick “Crimson Peak” releases its first trailer featuring Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain and Charlie Hunman.

Guillermo del Torro seemed to have given up horror genres since his movies like “Mimic” and “The Devil’s Backbone” failed on the box office. He dedicated his time and effort to the sci-fi thriller The Pacific Rim. Starring Idris Elba and Charlie Hunman, the film was a box office success and that probably gave del Torro his confidence back.

His new horror flick, Crimson Peak just released its first official trailer. The trailer features Tom Hiddleston, Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain and Charlie Hunman and a very scary looking Victorian mansion.

The storyline for the film details Mia Wasikowska as a writer who is attracted by a tall, handsome stranger she falls in love with. She then moves to his house where he lives with his sister Edith. The house has a haunted past of its own and Mia’s character discovers that for herself.

In the trailer, Mia’s character admits the existence of ghosts. The trailer then goes on to depict a party where she is standing with her peers when she is asked to dance by a handsome stranger. They dance as the woman playing the piano looks over her shoulder and Charlie Hunman looks on with dismay.

The couple falls in love and they look smitten by each other. She soon moves to his house where he introduces her to his sister “Edith” and we realize it’s the same woman playing the piano. Edith comes off as creepy and a little bit weird.

Mia’s character is fascinated with Hiddleston who seems to be an inventor. The couple begins to have an intimate relationship while they are closely scrutinized by Edith who even peeks through their bedroom peephole. The sequence then turns to the interaction between the two ladies. Edith reveals that even the children have been living in the house for their whole life and they had been confined to the nursery in the attic.

The sequence is accompanied by strange events that the young woman experiences throughout the house including shadows moving to form humanly figures, walls moving and skeleton like fingers playing the piano wearing a dress similar to Edith’s. As events unravel, Charlie Hunman intervenes by warning Mia’s character to proceed with caution followed by all of them standing in mourning at a funeral.

The scenes turn gory with a crimson figure in the bath tub, a shadowy figure and scenes form the past with torturous weapons. She enquires about deaths in the house as she feels things intensifying and wants to leave. Charlie Hunman offers to take her away followed by someone falling from the hill. Edith then tells her that she can’t leave because it was her home. The trailer ends with a creepy voice saying “Beware of the Crimson Peak.”

The trailer is scary and features a great cast. It builds up the anticipation to see the movie. The movie will get released on October 16 this year which is Halloween season and perfect for a good scare at the movies.
