Disney Will Not Make Tron 3

The sequel reportedly will not be made since studio does not have a release date for it

Disney will not go forward with Tron 3, the latest installment of Tron series.

The studio has announced the decision as they are unable to find a release date for the film, Variety reports.

Disney has been planning to develop a sequel for a while but it was not official yet. In fact early in the April, there have been reports that 2010 Tron: Legacy, will have a sequel, in which Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund will reprise their roles alongside Bruce Boxleitner who played the dual role of Tron and Alan Bradley in the original film and also in the second installment. Joseph Kosinski was on board to direct the sequel and the shooting was expected to begin in the fall.

“We had never greenlit the movie, but it was in development for some time,” An executive at the Disney studio told. “Things in the queue got ahead of it and we have such a big slate out in front of it, we started to think, where does it go? And it’s a pretty big investment to make if you are not even sure when you are going to release it.”

Disney already had a long list of films lined up for hitting theatres including Jungle Book, Pirates of Caribbean sequel, Beauty and the Beast and Toy Story 4 with the release date of many films like Mulan, Frozen 2, Cars 3 and Winnie the Pooh are yet to be announced and it appears that their too much crowded schedule will not allow them to announce any new film till 2023.

People were expecting a sequel since Tron: Legacy, which was the follow up of the1982 cult classic “Tron”, was a massive financial success and grossed $400 million worldwide. The sequel revolved around Sam Flynn, the son of Kevin Flynn who gets into the Grid to find his father while Quorra played by Olivia Wilde is a sentient artificial intelligence and a close associate of Kevin Flynn in the Grid.
