The CEO of PIMCO, Mohamed El-Erian would have reconsidered his decision of leaving the company had he known about certain things.

He left without any protest or even a small frown on his face. But Mohamed El-Erian, who was once upon a time the heir to PIMCO’ chief, had not the slightest whiff of what was brewing in the company.

Otherwise he would have thought twice about departing from the organization. His strange choice of letting go of an organization with $2 trillion in assets in its storehouses appeared to be indeed very absurd to many.

He was to say later on that had he known about the storm in a teacup that would follow later on he would not have taken the steps he took. He /4/even have been a part-time CEO.

However, the man was a dynamo and working part time was just not his style. He either gave it 100% or relaxed on an island in the Bahamas. What he just would not do was to respond in a lukewarm manner.

“Was there a way of not going 100 miles an hour and maybe going 50 miles an hour? To be perfectly honest, I didn’t explore that option. I never explored it,” El-Erian said.

El-Erian’s venture into the dangerous unknown in pursuit of greener pastures sure derailed the world of finance and investment. He was supposed to be a crown prince who would become king one day (metaphorically speaking).

But it was not to be. El-Erian decided he needed to give more time to his family. Being a protective pop was more important than being a professional executive at the top.

After his prepubescent daughter wrote a list of events he had missed attending in her life, he decided that enough was enough. His family needed him more than he his business practice.

El-Erian has gone ahead and gotten a slot in Allianz. He has no more connections with PIMCO. From now on he is his own main man. And he will be giving a whole lot of tender loving care to his family especially his ten year old daughter who really misses daddy dearest.

Nobody is going to see his CV the day he dies, but his relatives will be there and remember him in kind words if he gave them enough time and shared his deepest moments with them. That’s what counts in life. Not money, but meaningfulness.
