Whereas Ellen DeGeneres shared a Samsung (Oscars sponsor) Galaxy Note 3 selfie with several other stars in the audience at the Oscars, backstage she committed a gaffe by employing her Apple iPhone. She seems to love iPhone.
President Obama /4/think he is a big thing in terms of influence and fame. Whereas it is Ellen DeGeneres that takes the prize for that achievement away from him. She tweeted a selfie of herself along with other notable personalities at the Oscars.
If only Bradley’s arm was longer. Best photo ever. #oscars pic.twitter.com/C9U5NOtGap— Ellen DeGeneres (@TheEllenShow) March 3, 2014
These talented stars included: Jennifer Lawrence, Julia Roberts, Kevin Spacey and Brad Pitt. The show was sponsored by Samsung and so Ellen used her Samsung Note 3 to take the fun-filled selfie of excited Hollywood stars.
“Tonight, Hollywood royalty gathered to celebrate the 86th Academy Awards. Throughout the evening, acceptance speeches, tributes and spontaneous selfies made us laugh, cry, smile, and of course, turn to our Twitter stream for the #Oscars party. During the live show (8:30 p.m.-12:00 midnight ET) there were more than 14.7 million Tweets around the world containing terms related to the telecast,” states Twitter in an official blog.
But the particular Ellen DeGeneres selfie on her Twitter home page has gone the rounds to the amount of 1.3 million send-outs. Now that is a huge and astronomical number. It is much larger than President Obama’s 2012 election landslide victory tweet which was only re-tweeted close to 780,000 times.
Bradley Cooper was the most prominent personality in the selfie as he held Ellen’s Galaxy Note 3. His arm stretched out and took the jovial if slightly crowded self-taken-photograph. Samsung seems to have won the day by being advertised in such ingenious ways throughout the global village of today.
But there was a blunder that Ellen committed. She took a selfie with her Apple iPhone in a backstage moment. That did it! It destroyed all the glamorous image of Samsung that had been built up by so much hard sell advertising and marketing.

It seemed the name of its major rival and a thorn in its side (Apple Incorporated) caused all hell to break loose. Several other stars have been guilty of endorsing one product and using another one that is its nemesis in public.

This causes corporate brand friction and some very embarrassing moments. It is almost like a model supports PETA and then wears genuine mink stoles. Absurd! Incongruent! A Contradiction! Obviously…and that is exactly what occurred in case of the selfies that Ellen DeGeneres took at the Oscars.
