Elon Musk Says HBO’s “Silicon Valley” is Weird at Redwood City Premiere

Elon Musk got pretty nasty recently about HBO’s show “Silicon Valley”. The occasion was its Redwood City premiere and he rejected its authenticity in a gruff manner.

The television show titled “Silicon Valley” is a small attempt at making fun of the high tech information technology industry based in California. 

But while it is just a product of the media, some people have taken it rather too seriously. One of these grouches is Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla Motors. The man is truly peeved at what the show portrays in the way of developers, engineers and designers. 

Although many people were positively enthused about the show, Elon Musk had only unkind words about it. “The truth? Is stranger than the fiction,” Musk said. “Most startups are a soap opera, but not that kind of soap opera.”

“None of those characters were software engineers,” he continued, building up steam. “Software engineers are more helpful, thoughtful, and smarter. They’re weird, but not in the same way. I was just having a meeting with my information security team, and they’re great but they’re pretty fucking weird — one used to be a dude, one’s super small, one’s hyper-smart — that’s actually what it is.” 

This /4/be because he sees an image of himself in its subtext (or subscript). Well, the first shots of the show did mention Musk by name, so that /4/be one reason he is so damn pissed off at the spoof.

The main man on the show is Mike Judge. Six fellow programmers are shown trying to make it big in Silicon Valley. Their struggles and conflicts drew several mixed responses from the audience. 

“I really feel like Mike Judge has never been to Burning Man, which is Silicon Valley,” Musk said. “If you haven’t been, you just don’t get it. You could take the craziest L.A. party and multiply it by a thousand, and it doesn’t even get fucking close to what’s in Silicon Valley. The show didn’t have any of that.”

It also shows a Mark Zuckerberg-like character that is both shy and awkward and tries not to sell his fledgling social network to Google for a large sum of money. The after-party was a time when several of the real-life high tech execs got together. 

Elon Musk was one of them and he let loose a volley of insulting remarks about the so-called soap opera. Musk said that he knew software engineers and that they were more deliberative, considerate and intelligent than the ones depicted in the show. 

“The parties in Silicon Valley are amazing because people don’t care about how they’re perceived socially, which I don’t think Mike [Judge] got. Hollywood is a place where people always care about what the public will think of them, and it’s fucking sad, and the show felt more like that,” he said. “I’ve lived in Hollywood 12 years, and I’ve never been to a fucking good party.”

In fact, he spoke of how the characters in the unrealistic show were pretty weird. Elon went ahead and criticized Mike Judge by saying that he had probably never even seen Burning Man in his life. Later on when the party was close to ending a coterie of female admirers circled Musk who proceeded from his vitriolic language to more mundane concerns.
