Author Martin Amis has a new book out titled “The Zone of Interest.” The book is set during the Holocaust. At a the Cheltenham Literature Festival Amis’ made some controversial statements around Hitler‘s sex life that got a lot of attention.
Amis raises the argument that we can’t understand Hitler because we know nothing of his sex life. He imagines that Hitler had sex with Eva Braun without touching her. He said quote: “fortifying his underpants with clean serviettes and napkins” before engaging in the act. Amis is drawing this imagination from Hitler’s reported focus on cleanliness.
Amis says that sexuality is one of the ways humans recognize each other. Because we only have theories about Hitler’s sex life we do not understand Hitler. Via The Telegraph.
It is hard to imagine Hitler having sex, but then do we have too. Hitler brought devastation over the world and it is hard to comprehend that one person can cause all that. But then, this is why Amis’ discussion about Hitler’s sexuality is raising so much attention.
