Facebook launches two initiatives to bolster its Messenger app.

Facebook has announced a new way for developers to showcase their apps on the social network’s messaging service. Dubbed Messenger Platform, the initiative makes it easier for Messenger users to discover apps. It will also help developers promote their apps on Facebook’s messaging service, used by 600 million people around the world.

Through the Messenger Platform, apps can be promoted, shared, and installed within Messenger. That means no more searching and browsing for recommended apps. The Messenger Platform will also inspire developers to build apps that will allow users to express themselves better. An example could be an app for sharing GIFs or videos.

So, how does it work? According to Facebook’s Lexy Franklin, Messenger Platform apps can be installed directly within Messenger. If a person receives a recommended app or a content from an app, he or she can install that app from an application store, saving you time wasted from browsing helplessly on the App Store or Google Play Store. Facebook is now launching the Messenger Platform to all developers.

Additionally, Facebook is announcing Businesses on Messenger, a move that will soon allow Messenger users and businesses to communicate directly from the messaging app. For example, users can chat with a store on Messenger upon checkout to get order confirmations or shipping updates. Participating businesses like Everlane and Zulily are now supporting the feature.
