In an attempt to compete with Snapchat, this new app from Facebook will only take a few clicks to share videos and pictures that would disappear after one view.

Facebook took a hard blow when it failed to purchase the famous video and picture messaging app for $3 billion last year. Yes, we are talking about Snapchat which has been going viral these days and is becoming essential for anyone who owns a smartphone and loves to play around with a group of friends. According to a new report from the Financial Times, the competition from Snapchat is being taken very seriously by Facebook which is directing all its efforts towards building a competing “ephemeral messaging” app and the work in progress is carefully being supervised by Mark Zuckerberg himself.

We don’t have enough details on this upcoming app but we do know that it would be quite similar to Snapchat and will only take a few clicks to share videos and pictures that would disappear after one view. According to some rumors, the app is likely to be called the “Slingshot” internally and it could be released as early as this month.

This app is not going to be the first one coming out of Facebook in an attempt to bring out a formula similar to that of the Snapchat. Back in 2012, it Facebook gave a shot with the Poke which is a similar video-sharing app and after its failure, Mark has been known to call it a ‘joke’ instead. The app was developed under 12 hours of time and it was discontinued earlier this month.
