Filip Technologies has launched a new watch for kids called Filip 2. This watch allows parents to monitor their kids and is now available for sale at AT&T at price of $100.
FiLIP 2 is the best Christmas gift for children. It is a small smartphone that is strapped to your kid’s wrist. The smartwatch is an upgraded version of the previous watch introduced by the company called FiLip. The size of the watch is enormous, thus it might look weird once worn on a small wrist.
But then it’s better to strap something on a kid’s wrist instead of telling him to carry his phone everywhere. Kids often forget their things or they tend to lose it, but wearable items like these are less likely to be forgotten or lost.
Even though the watch if clunky, yet it is still cute because of its two big buttons, slip-on style enclosure. The S/3/watch is available in many colors for your kids to choose. It also works as a location tracker i.e. a kid can press and hold a certain button that will help you locate your kid. It works as an automatic location beacon.
Your kids can make calls and send SMS’s to all the numbers that are stored in the phone directory of FiLIp 2. In case of emergency, if the child is trying to contact his/her parents and their phone is not answered, the watch will then immediately start calling the remaining numbers and won’t rest till someone answers the phone.
The watch supports a ‘SafeZone’ feature that allows parents to set geo-fences around places like school, home or playgrounds. Whenever the kid will leave or enter these areas the parents would be alerted. The inbuilt ‘smart locator’ function allows parents to track their child’s location. It also plots the location on a map with the help of GSM, Wi-Fi and GPS.
In addition to the safety measure, FiLIp 2 also works as a Smartphone. The child would be allowed to call or receive calls only from those five numbers which are pre-programed by the parents. In order to make a call the child has to scroll contacts and then push the button.
The device itself can be controlled and configured through mobile apps that work with FiLip 2 and FiLip. FiLIp 2 is better in many ways when compared to FiLip. It has improved durability, a closeable wristband and comes in many new colors, according to the company. iOS app that supports FiLip watches has been updated whereas the new Android app won’t be available until late this year.
According to the company, FiLIp 2 is for kids who are under 11. It is meant for the kids who are too small to play outside by themselves and for kids who are still young to carry a real smartphone. This will allow parents a complete supervision of their child. They will be able to track his or her every movement, every second.
Currently the watch is on sale for $99.99 at AT&T, but once the holidays are finished, its retail price would be $149.
