  • A second false fire alarm went off in the New England Patriots’ hotel on Jan. 29.
  • Both Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and his teammate and tight end Rob Gronkowski said they slept through it.

A second false fire alarm went off inside the New England Patriots’ hotel at 2 a.m. PT on Thursday, Jan. 29, per multiple reports.

A second false fire alarm has gone off in the New England Patriots’ hotel room during the days leading up to Super Bowl XLIX.

According to NFL Media’s Kimberly Jones (via NFL.com’s Kevin Patra), the false alarm is the second in three nights. She broke the news at 5 a.m. PT on Thursday, Jan. 29. Patra stresses random distractions such as this one is a reminder to everyone that Super Bowl weekend is definitely upon us.

Both Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and tight end Rob Gronkowski slept soundly despite the ruckus, per NFL.com.

Gronkowski told ESPN about his experience. He said,”I slept right through it. I slept great last night. I’m glad I didn’t hear it.”

Brady echoed the same sentiment to ESPN. He quipped,”I haven’t heard it. Must be sleeping through it, so that’s good. I slept great.”

ESPN confirms the Patriots are staying at the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort & Spa in Chandler, Az. The hotel’s public relations director, Stephanie Sanstead, said the alarm went off for two minutes. However, she confirms it didn’t go off in the players’ wing.

Sanstead issued an apology on ESPN. She said,”We apologize to our guests. We are taking this matter very seriously. We are reviewing everything.”

In another development, both Brady and his head coach, Bill Belichick are unanimous in saying former San Diego Chargers and New England Patriots linebacker Junior Seau is a lock for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, per ESPN’s Jeff Legwold. Seau is one of the 15 modern-era finalists for the Class of 2015.

Brady told Legwold his former teammate was “phenomenal”:

“I have no doubt he’ll be elected. If he can’t make it, nobody can. He’s truly one of a kind. It was a privilege playing with him.

“He was a phenomenal player, teammate, friend. His attitude was infectious. He brought enthusiasm every day to practice. He showed up in the room and he’d be the first person there at six in the morning on the treadmill running, going into his 18th year in the league. He had a love for life and he’s missed by all of his family and friends, and certainly by me and the guys that had a chance to be around him. He was a special person.”

For his part, Belichick told Legwold it’s unimaginable to see the Pro Football Hall of Fame without the legendary Seau:

“It’s obviously got to happen. I can’t imagine having a Professional Football Hall of Fame without Junior Seau in it.

“The one word that comes to me when I think of Junior in life and football (is) passion. He’s a very passionate guy, lot of energy, lot of enthusiasm. First guy in the building in the morning, watching film, lifting weights, ready for practice, always loved to practice, flying around on the practice field, energy before the game on the sideline (and) during the game, emotional player, but a smart player…I loved coaching him and he always expressed how much he enjoyed playing on the New England Patriots and that meant a lot to me.”

Seau was a 12-time Pro Bowl selection who spent his last four pro seasons in New England. He spent 13 years playing for his hometown team, the San Diego Chargers. Seau is in his first year of eligibility and has a good chance of being named one of the five members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2015 this weekend, per ESPN.

He committed suicide on /4/2, 2012, per Legwold.
