Fireball Cinnamon Whisky got removed from shelves in Europe because of too high levels of Propylene Glycol. Now the whisky brand issued a statement.
Fireball Cinnamon Whisky is in the news as the liquor got removed from shelves in Sweden and Finland because of Propylene Glycol levels. Fireball is still sold in North America. Now the company issued a statement clarifying the situation. According to Sazerac, the problem is that the recipe for the European version of Fireball had Propylene Glycol ingredient not in compliance with the levels that the European Union has set. Propylene Glycol (PG) is a flavoring ingredient that the FDA considers a generally recognized as safe (GRAS) ingredient. Levels of up to 50g per kg are accepted levels by the FDA.
According to Sazerac, PG is a regularly used and perfectly safe flavoring ingredient. PG has been used in more than 4,000 food, beverage, pharmaceutical and cosmetic products for more than 50 years. Most people consume PG every day in soft drinks, sweeteners, some foods and alcoholic beverages.
Fireball will actually be back on shelves in Finland, Sweden and Norway within 3 weeks.

Sazerac insists that all Fireball formulas are absolutely safe to drink and the use of PG in Fireball creates no health risks whatsoever. There is no recall in North America.
So looks like you can drink Fireball Cinnamon Whisky, but does this actually taste good? I never had these cinnamon flavored liquors. I don’t think I want to find out and stick with Single Malts.
