Tim Cook and managers work through the night and day
Former Employees Say Apple Is A 24/7 Job
The work environment at Apple has been one that has gotten a lot of attention over the years. The late Steve Jobs’ work ethic and attitude at work has been something of legend, although since his passing it seems as though nothing has slowed down and people are still expected to work throughout the night.
Two former managers of Apple recently did an interview with Debug 47 and they described the hours that they are expected to work there. They describe getting emails at 1, 2, and 3AM in the morning and they were always expected to get the response back to the sender as quick as possible. When they sent their own emails out, they would even get annoyed when people wouldn’t immediately respond to their messages.
The CEO, Tim Cook, is reportedly spending long hours at the Cupertino campus and while he comes into work in the early hours of the morning, he also stays until the late hours of the night. When he has a question, he expects managers to have the same hours and be able to respond to the questions.
They say that from virtually everything is taking place at 2AM, when there is a firehose of emails going out to every part of the company. Whether you are a VP, executive VP, or just a manager, you have to deal with this kind of communication day after day, week after week, year after year, which has left many people burnt out, while many people have thrived in it.
