Furious 7 Director Will Helm Aquaman

Director James Wan has closed another deal with Warner Bros for directing “Robotech”

James Wan will direct superhero film “Aquaman”.

The Furious 7 director’s next mega project will be with Warner Bros and it has been officially announced by the studio on Wednesday.

“We’ve been so lucky to have worked with James, first on New Line’s ‘The Conjuring’ and now on their upcoming ‘The Conjuring 2’ and are thrilled to have him on board as we continue to expand our DC slate,” Greg Silverman, the president of creative development and worldwide production for Warner Bros. Pictures said in a statement. “The ‘Aquaman’ film will be a major tentpole picture for us, and James’ span of work has proven him able to take on any manner of project, bringing his incredible talent and unique voice to the material.”

The film, which is still untitled, is scheduled to release in 2018. The new project will feature Jason Momoa in the lead role, who is also playing the same character in upcoming “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, set to make a debut in March 2016. According to Variety, Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder and Zack Snyder, who has been the director of “300”, Sucker Punch and “Man of Steel” are producing the film while the script has been written by Kurt Johnstad.

Created by artists Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger , Aquaman is an underwater superhero who has made several appearances in the DC comics. The upcoming will focus the character of Aquaman, the King of the Seven Seas and the reluctant ruler of Atlantis, who is in continues struggle to defend the globe.

Charles Roven, one of the producers of the film appreciated the way James crafts his projects “James is not only a great storyteller but can make action truly explode on the big screen,” Roven also likes the presence of Jason Momoa and thinks that the combination of both can do wonders for them. “Jason has a dynamic presence that commands your attention. Together, they will bring an undeniable vitality and energy to his character as he headlines his first feature film.”

James Wan recently helmed action-packed “Furious 7”, which earned $1.5 billion worldwide, becoming the fourth-highest grossing film of all time. Warner Bros. has tapped Wan for another film as well which is science fiction film “Robotech.”
