Furious 7 Makes Huge Splash at Weekend Box Office

The first estimates put Furious 7 at the top of the weekend box office with over $143 million in domestic ticket sales.

Furious 7 makes a stunning $143.6 million (estimated) at the domestic weekend box office according to numbers of Rentrak. The Furious 7 opening is the biggest movie opening since well over a year. 

This also much higher than the opening of Fast & Furious 6 in 2013, which opened with $97.3m.

The numbers are still estimates as Sunday has just started. The final numbers of the Furious 7 opening will come in on Monday. Obviously even after the tragic passing of Paul Walker, one of the key characters in the Fast & Furious franchise, Universal is not ready to end the hyper successful series.

Furious 8 is supposed to have Kurt Russell’s role expands in New York. There are supposed to be three more Furious movies planned. This means that there will be at least 10 Fast & Furious movies. This is not jet James Bond level, but it slowly is getting there.

Dominic Torretto and his crew thought they left the criminal mercenary life behind. They defeated an international terrorist named Owen Shaw and went their separate ways. But now, Shaw’s brother, Deckard Shaw is out killing the crew one by one for revenge. Worse, a Somalian terrorist called Jakarde, and a shady government official called “Mr. Nobody” are both competing to steal a computer terrorism program called God’s Eye, that can turn any technological device into a weapon. Torretto must reconvene with his team to stop Shaw and retrieve the God’s Eye program while caught in a power struggle between terrorist and the United States government.
