Furious 7 tops box office for the fourth straight weekend

Furious 7 earned $18.3 million at the US box office, edging out “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2” and Blake Lively starrer “Age of Adeline”

Furious 7 is not slowing down and continues to roar into the theaters.

The seventh installment of Fast and Furious franchise is at No.1 spot for the fourth consecutive weekend with $18.3 million, edging out “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 and Blake Lively’s “Age of Adeline”. Both films earned $15.5 million and $13.4 million at the US box office respectively.  Animated film “Home” is behind with $8.3 million while “Unfriended came in fifth with $6.2 million.

The last film to achieve four straight box office wins was “The Hunger Games” back in 2012. In the last 30 years, only 29 films have racked up four consecutive box office wins since their release in the theaters. However, chances are very slim for “Furious 7” for breaking “Titanic’s” all-time record of 15 consecutive wins at the top spot, achieved in 1997, according to the figures provided by New York Daily News.

Furious 7, starring Paul Walker and Vin Diesel, has grossed over $1.32 billion worldwide so far, making it the fifth highest grossing movie of all time. The latest installment is now jumped ahead of 2013 animated film Frozen and behind only Avatar ($2.03 billion), Titanic ($1.53 billion), The Avengers ($1.5 billion) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 ($ 1.34 billion).

Furious 7 never faced any real challenge throughout those four weeks, as no big-budget film was there to give it a hard time. However, a major shift in the landscape of US box office is expected with the release of “Avengers: Age of Ultron” next week.
