Giancarlo Gets The Biggest Contract in North America With Miami Marlins

Giancarlo Stanton is the luckiest baseball player on the planet. This is because Stanton is in talks to enter into an agreement with Miami Marlins for a whooping $325 million. The contract is the biggest so far in North America. This is despite the fact that he has not played 17 matches due to an injury that he suffered in the face.

Cincinnati has learned via USA Today that the contract will last for 13 years. The two parties are said to be in the final stages of formalizing the contract. The details of the agreement were hinted by a reliable resource who did not want to be mentioned.

The other big contract is that of Alex Rodriguez with New York Yankees at $275 million for 10 years. The twenty five year old star has been up for grabs for the last two years.

He was actually a runner-up in the MVP race to Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw. Prior to the injury, Stanton had recorded 37 homers at the National League. Additionally, he had 105 and 288 battings under his name.

Marlins president, David Samson was quoted in September by USA Today saying that they had noticed Stanton was the best player in the market. “He’s the leader of this franchise,” Marlins president David Samson said in September.

“We always knew the talent he had, but what he’s done this year, playing every day, he’s the definition of a game-changer.”

The good thing with Stanton’s contract is that his interests have been considered to enable him utilize his full potential in his baseball career. The agreement states that the player is not satisfied, he can look for another team after five consecutive years.

Besides that, Marlins can not involve him in any trade because the agreement does not have such a clause. Stanton is in deed privileged because other players did not have such benefits when the team was still under the management of Jeffrey Loria. Trades allow teams to exchange players among themselves in an attempt to improve their performance.

The team’s operations manager, Mike Hill,  stated that they had to sugar-coat their offer because Stanton is among the most sought after players and so they would have easily lost him if the deal was not interesting.

“It’s been a long-standing policy,” said Hill, “but you’re talking about a tremendous talent. You look at the marketplace, and what other elite players have gotten.”

Prior to the agreement, their had been rumors that Stanton would be traded for another player. The signing has however changed Marlins image because they are the first team to spend such big money on a player.

In an interview with USA Today, the player argued that being signed in is not a big issue provided the team wins in its matches. He added that he does not mind getting long term agreement as long as victory was the main focus.

The player said he was not happy with the way signings were being conducted in 2012. Though their deals have not been interesting to most free agents, the team has so far spent $300 million in the last five years. They are actually using Stanton to prove that they have changed.

 “It wasn’t the trades that made me mad,” Stanton said in September, “it was just how it all went down.”
