GM Recall Includes 12.8 Million Vehicles Worldwide

GM has issued many recall statements this year. GM has recalled a total of 12.8 million vehicles till now from all over the world.

Vehicle recall has now becomes the biggest nightmare for General Motors. GM recently recalled three million more vehicles which made its worldwide recall total a whopping 12.8 million this year.

Why does GM have to recall so many vehicles in a single year? Most of the vehicles are recalled due to the ignition switch problem. And this is not a new problem. It is a decade long issue with which GM is familiar. However, the troubled auto maker has been unable to solve this issue although a decade has passed. And 13 people are said to have died due to this ignition switch problem.

GM CEO, Mary Barra has promised to resolve this decade long ignition issue due to which the company has to recall millions of vehicles. However, yesterday’s recall of three million more vehicles has raised further safety concerns.

According to CNN Money, “The Department of Justice, investigators from Congress and federal auto regulators are currently probing the decade-long delay.”

GM’s recent recall also includes 2.4 million cars that have wiring issues. And two people are said to have gotten injured in at least 13 accidents due to this wiring problem. However, no deaths have been reported.

GM cars that have been recalled due to wiring issue includes 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu, 2004-2007 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx, 2005-2010 Pontiac G6, and 2007-2010 Saturn Auras.

A GM spokesman Alan Adler said, “We are changing the way we look at recalls.” But according to Kelley Blue Book analyst Karl Brauer said that GM’s tighter safety standards affect the company image.

“For folks who don’t follow the industry closely, the impression is that GM just can’t build a car right,” he said. “That’s unfortunate.”
