Google renames Webmaster Tools to Search Console.
Google decided to rename Google Webmaster Tools to Google Search Console. The essential tools for webmasters have been around for nearly ten years. Google has found out that the traditional idea of the “webmaster” reflects only some of the users of Google Webmaster Tools.
Google says that there are all kinds of Webmaster Tools users: hobbyists, small business owners, SEO experts, marketers, programmers, designers, app developers, and, of course, webmasters as well.
The unifying thing says Google is a desire to make content available online, and to make it findable through Google Search. To make the product name convey this, Google has decided to rebrand Google Webmaster Tools as Google Search Console.
We’re looking forward to an exciting future with Google Search Console, and hope to see users of all types—including webmasters—drop by and use our service to diagnose and improve the visibility of their content in search. We’ll be rolling out the updated branding across the product over the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
The new name is already live.
Google just recently introduced Search Analytics in the Webmaster Tools – sorry – in Search Console. With the new name today are not coming any new features. Given the simplistic typical Google UI, the name change only required to edit the service title in settings. It took longer to write the blog post announcing the new name than coding it.
