During the three-month transition, SurveyMonkey will find a replacement.
GoPro executive Zander Lurie will be heading SurveyMonkey for three months, following the sudden demise of Dave Goldberg, the venerable CEO of SurveyMonkey and the husband of Sheryl Sandberg of Facebook. Last week, Silicon Valley mourned the death of Goldberg, who suddenly died while on a vacation.
Zander Lurie, who is a close friend of Goldberg, previously sat on the board of the popular online survey company. Lurie is currently the Senior Vice President of Media at GoPro, leading the creation, curation, and distribution of contents created by the company’s thrill-seeking users. He will continue in his job at GoPro while temporarily helping SurveyMonkey.
“I am a resource to SurveyMonkey during this transition,” Lurie tells Re/code. “Dave was a strong leader who assembled an extraordinary team that is committed to fully realizing the company’s mission to help people around the world make better decisions with data.”
During the three-month transition, SurveyMonkey will find a replacement from a long list of internal and external candidates. The company’s late CEO died of a head injury after collapsing at a gym at a private resort in Mexico. A Mexican official confirmed to the New York Times that Goldberg fell off the treadmill and fractured his head, leading to blood loss.
Meanwhile, GoPro President Tony Blates said that the company is willing to help SurveyMonkey. “We consider this a small opportunity to demonstrate our respect for SurveyMonkey and Dave’s legacy,” Blates said.
