The former Stooges singer, Iggy Pop, says that U2’s new album is a ‘veiled advert.’ He says that the band and other musicians should concentrate more on making good music instead of music that sells.

Iggy Pop don’t like the U2’s latest album “Songs of innocence.” He went ahead to call it a veiled advert. He has been criticizing the worldwide acclaimed band since the album was released. Iggy Pop, at 67 years of age, left his musical career and has been lectures on the importance of good music. These lectures are mostly about the importance of making music that people would like to listen to instead of making music just for money.

Iggy has been speaking against making commercial music for the past few years now. He said that if music was about how much songs you sold, he’d be working between tables today. The essence of music is in the lyrics and the music and everything in between. It was and never should be about making money but that is what modern music has become.

He blamed YouTube for condescending music to a common theme of most watched and most successful music and it is somewhat degrading to good music. He praised Thom Yorke who released his collection of soundtracks earlier this year. The music is hauntingly brilliant and according to Iggy, Thom actually made some music worth listening to even when it did not do really well commercially.

Iggy’s wrath turned to U2 when their newest album showed up on the iTunes store to be bought. The lyrics of one of the songs goes somewhat along the lines of forcing people to listen to the song and Iggy doesn’t like that at all. He said that he expected more from the Oscar-nominated band then to make a song in which the lyrics are about forcing people to listen to the album indirectly.

Iggy’s comments about the album being a veiled advert implies his disappointment in the album. For Iggy the songs should just be heard and liked and should not be forced upon people to buy and that is what musicians and producers are concentrating on and people like Simon Cowell are the benefiting party in all of it. People are deprived of good music and Iggy is against this corruption against good music.
