- Instagram Updates Its Guidelines And Is Now Strict On Harassment And Pornography
The social media app which is known for its videos and picture posts is changing some of its guidelines to become somewhat strict when it comes to harassment and pornography.
We all love using Instagram. It is one of the most fun applications out there. All of our friends and the famous celebrities have access to this app just like any other user. But then there are some people that take things to another level.
Director of public policy for Instagram Nicky Jackson Colaco told WSJ that in the old days they would only ask people nicely to be nice to other users. But now they are actively telling them to not harass other people. Now their language is just a little stronger.
The previous guidelines asked the users to be more polite and respectful but the new guidelines tell them that serious threats of harm to public and personal safety are not allowed. The earlier guidelines asked the users to not post any nude content.
But now the Instagram updates its Community Guidelines and tells the users to not post nudity or mature content. We can see that the guidelines are now more specific and down to the point. Instagram also tells people that photos of post-mastectomy and women breastfeeding are okay.
But not okay are the close-ups of fully nude buttocks. These guidelines weren’t changed when Facebook bought Instagram for $1 Billion. Back then Instagram only had 30 million users but because of these changes, many people have started to accept this application and now it has more than 300 million users.
Instagram doesn’t checks every image before it is being uploaded but instead it reviews only those images that are reported by other users. If the content is found violating the guidelines, then it will be removed without a question.
Instagram also said that it looks at hundreds and thousands of complaints every week and it reassures those worrying parents that are afraid that their kids would be subjected to cyber bullying. Instagram believes that they need to establish a baseline around nudity so that most people can live by it.
