Intel on Monday announced that its first low-power Broadwell chips will hit the market in limited quantities before the end of the year

In a recent announcement which took place on Monday, Intel unveiled its “Core M” processors which are exclusively designed for the fan-less, low-power mobile devices which we usually see in the super thin form factors. Intel announced that these processors are targeting devices which are less than 10 mm thick and hence we have already concluded that these M processors would be an ideal option for the Windows-based “convertible” tablet-laptop combinations. Unfortunately, Apple will just have to wait a bit longer since these Core M chips would not be suitable for the powerful MacBook Pro lineup. For that Intel will introduce an even powerful range which is expected to launch in 2015.

However, the redesigned MacBook Air which we have been hearing about since a long time might be able to get its benefits from the Broadwell Core M chip. Reports have already started coming in that Apple is currently working on a revamped 12-inch model with a high-resolution Retina display. According to the speculations of the KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, this new rumored MacBook model is going to be fan-less and will feature a new click-less trackpad. As opposed to the MacBook Pro, these elements present in the new model will apparently fully support Intel’s Broadwell Core M chips. But it is important to keep in mind that this Apple redesign is merely a rumor and so far we haven’t gotten any solid leaks on this one.
