The wait is over for the fans of “Into the Woods”. It has return and this time there are two musical numbers probably telling the end.
The two musical numbers are the famous “Into the Woods” refrain from the prologue and the Witch’s tender song to Rapunzel, “Stay With Me,” sung here by Meryl Streep. Directed by Rob Marshall, the skillful man, it is assumed that the ensemble cast and the efforts of the director will make the musical the most watched theater this time. Telling about the show Marshall told the EW for the cover story “It’s not sunny, sunny, sunny—we wanted a sense of danger”.
Those who have watched the trailer can get it that the musical does not have a happy ending. By danger Marshall means the danger lurking in the lives of Baker (James Corden) and his wife (Emily Blunt) when they are sent into the woods by Streep’s witch in search of some items to break the curse.
The story line as well as the cast has come as a gift for the fans. The musical has wonderful actors. Apart from this many famous actors have given their voice over for the musical. Johnny Depp is one of them but whose voice over is he? This is yet to be revealed.
The cast includes Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect) as Cinderella, Chris Pine (Star Trek’s Captain Kirk) as her prince, James Corden as the Baker and Emily Blunt as the Baker’s Wife. The show is directed by Rob Marshall. It is based on the award winning show Twisted Take by Sondheim Tony which premiered in November 1987.
The musical has combined the stories of different fairy tales and has gathered it in one musical “Into the Woods”. The characters embark upon a journey to get rid of the curse laid upon them.
The original “Into the Woods” made its debut in 1987. It was the adaptation by talented Meryl Streep. Though it could not run for a long time like the famous “Cats” but still it managed to become popular. Although it did not win any award but it ranks among the sixth most popular musicals performed in high school. The show has been revived many times.
Like “Les Miserables” which is another musical-to-film adaptation “Into the Woods” is the first choice of any amateur troupes. The reason is the interesting story line and the demanding music.
The Roundabout Theater Company in New York is planning a revival of this musical in 2015 but they are not oblivious to the fact that it is more famous if it has the Broadway cast. Above all it is a family show and anyone can enjoy that. So this time The Roundabout Theater Company /4/prove the axiom wrong.
Writer and producer Elieen Roberts decided to approach the cast of the film “Into the Woods” to hold a reunion event. So she invited the original cast and they shared their experience working together.
