  • New York Knicks owner James Dolan responded to an angry email from a fan obtained by Deadspin. He said the fan should root for the Brooklyn Nets instead.

New York Knicks owner James Dolan told disgruntled New York Knicks Fan Irving Bierman, who criticized Dolan for the decisions he’s made during his tenure, to root for the Brookly Nets instead in a heated e-mail exchange.

New York Knicks owner James Dolan is not one to put up with impatient fans.

Dolan told Knicks fan Irving Bierman, who criticized Dolan for the decisions he’s made during his tenure, to root for the Brooklyn Nets instead in a heated email exchange obtained by Deadspin’s Timothy Burke. In it, Dolan tells Bierman to “start rooting for Nets because the Knicks don’t want you.”

A Madison Square Garden representative confirmed to ESPN New York’s Ian Begley the email was indeed written by Dolan.

For his part, Bierman wrote in his email obtained by Deadspin that he his embarrassed by how Dolan has handled the Knicks:

“At one stage I thought you did a wonderful thing when you acquired EVERYTHING from you dad. However, since then it has been ALL DOWN HILL. Your working with Isiah Thomas & everything else regarding the Knicks. Brnging on Phil Jackson was a positive beginning, but lowballing Steve Kerr was a DISGRACE to the knicks. The bottom line is that you merely continued to interfere with the franchise.

“As a knicks fan in excess of 60 years, I am utterly embarased by your dealings with the Knicks. Sell them so their fans can at least look forward to growing them in a positive direction Obviously, money IS NOT THE ONLY THING. You have done a lot of utterly STUPID business things with the franchise. Please NO MORE. Respectfully, Irving Bierman.”

Dolan wrote back saying Bierman is “a hateful mess,” per Deadspin:

“Why would anybody write such a hateful letter. I am just guessing but ill be your life is a hateful mess and you are a hateful mess. What have you done that anyone would consider positive or nice. I am betting nothing. In fact ill bet you are negative force in everyone who comes in contact with you. You most likely have made your family miserable. Alcoholic maybe. I just celebrated my 21 year anniversary of my sobriety.

“You should try it. Maybe it will help you become a better person that folks would like to have around. In the mean while start rooting for the Nets because the Knicks don’t want you. Respectfully James Dolan.”

When Begley asked Bierman if he intends to root for the Nets, the latter replied,”Never.”

Bierman’s son, Aaron, told Begley that Dolan’s response revealed the kind of person he is. The younger Bierman said,”We thought maybe [Dolan] would admit he made some mistakes. Instead, he confirmed some of the worst things that fans think of him.”

In another development, Steve Kerr’s Golden State Warriors beat the Knicks, 106-92, at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, Feb. 7. Kerr was close to becoming the Knicks head coach last offseason but decided to ink a deal with the Warriors instead in order to be closer to his family in California, per The New York Daily News’ Justin Tasch.

Knicks star forward Carmelo Anthony sat the game out with a left-knee injury. New York trailed buy as many as 26 points but inched within five with 4:21 left to play. The team couldn’t overcome the early deficit to fall to 10-41 while the Warriors improved to 40-9, The New York Daily News report adds.

Kerr told Tasch refusing an offer from first-year Knicks president Phil Jackson was tough because he’s indebeted to him dating back to his playing days with the Chicago Bulls:

“It was difficult because I’m very, very close with him and I feel like I’m indebted to him for much of what’s transpired. Everything that happened in Chicago led to San Antonio, which led to TNT, which led to Phoenix and here — it’s all because of the Chciago experience. It’s all because of Phil that I got to Chicago in the first place. So from that perspective, it was difficult.”
