Grammy-nominated Gospel music superstar James Fortune was arrested in Stafford.

The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office stated that the Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter and producer, is charged with aggravated assault on a family member. James was booked on 23rd October and posted the $20,000 bond the next day. The name of the family member has not been released.

James Fortune released the following statement saying that he is truly sorry for the negative attention this situation has brought to my family and partners. He said that this is a pending legal matter he cannot comment on anything that has been reported and has asked the media to respect the privacy of his family as he goes through this legal battle. James also thanked his fans for their continued support and love.

However this is not the first time James Fortune has been convicted. He was convicted of burning his 4 year old step son in 2001. According to lawsuit documents James left the boy disfigured with second and third degree burns on nearly half of his body. The civil suit claims that James picked up his son from school and the teacher told him that the boy had been acting up in class.

James then scolded the boy the entire ride home and then prepared a hot bath for the boy. The lawsuit claims that James pushed the toddler into the hot bath and held him underwater causing him the burns. In 2003 James pled guilty and received 6 years deferred adjudication. The toddler’s biological father was responsible for the lawsuit and sued for $5m.

James Fortune is a two-time Grammy nominee, three times Stellar Award winner and six-time ASCAP award winning songwriter. His song ‘You Survived’ has been in the Top 7 for the last 3 years. He is also a radio show host associated with Radio One, the parent company of ‘NewsOne.com’.

Well James you certainly need to get hold of your anger before you seriously harm someone. Hope you get justice if you haven’t done anything and return to your radio show as soon as possible.
