Now new app controlled smart home systems are available that you can install without ripping up all your walls. The Wink lighting system is such a system. You just need the bulbs, a hub unit and a smartphone to control your lighting.

GE hired actor Jeff Goldbum to star in a funny commercial to explain GE Link. The ad has been created by Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim. Tim & Eric are known for their fun Tim and Eric Awesome Show. Jeff Goldblum plays an over the top celebrity who knows how important good lighting is.

Through the Wink HUB, the GE Link light bulbs connect to the Wink app on your mobile device, so you can control them from anywhere. You can remotely operate individual lights or groups, sync them with other smart products, dim or highlight for the perfect setting, and automate lighting to fit your schedule. They use 80% less power than traditional bulbs, making them energy efficient to boot. The GE link bulbs are supposed to last 22.8 years and have an estimated energy cost $1.45/year.

HomeDepot sells the Wink Hub with 2 GE Link 60W bulbs for $49.94.
