  • Jimmy Fallon: From the Tonight Show’s Host to Fresh Host!

It is time to take The Tonight Show to sunny L.A. and Jimmy Fallon does it in the best possible way!

The Tonight Show started with a parody intro of the 90’s sitcom Fresh Prince of Bel Air starring Fallon himself. Fallon portrayed Will smith’s character in the theme song segment and announced the temporary move of the show back to L.A. for a week.

The parody clip was a collaboration of Fallon with the band ‘The Roots’. The entire clip’s duration is only 1 minute and 24 seconds but has already gone viral. The video already has over a million views on YouTube and numerous meme’s on social media sites. The hashtag #FreshHost is already a trending topic on Twitter and the original tweet by Fallon has 1,074 retweets.

The clip starts with Fallon sitting on a throne with the words ‘The Fresh Host of Tonight’ flashing before him. Then Fallon starts rapping as homage to the 90’s sitcom’s theme song. Fallon raps that he will only take a minute to tell his viewers how he brought The Tonight Show back to L.A. and is followed by sequences of Fallon in various funny situations. Fallon is subsequently seen drawing graffiti on a wall and being accosted by a cop and nervously he sprays his own tongue at a dig at humour.

The next clip shows Fallon playing basketball with a couple of friends and relates his tale that how one night after the show he was hanging out with his friends at the Rockefeller Centre. His friends were sick of the cold and suggested he (Fallon) should move the show on the road and the clip depicts two men shivering and covered in snow for comic relief. The clip then reverts to Fallon busting some funny dance moves for a few seconds.

Fallon continues the rap and relates that he whistled for a cab from New York and landed 3000 miles away in Los Angeles. Fallon steps out of the cab and proceeds entering the Universal Studio with doors labelled Stage 1 and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. The last seconds of the clip show Fallon rolling his head around in excitement and the words ‘Based on the comedy by Lorne Michaels (the executive producer of the show)’.

The parody clip is fast, catchy and full of comedic quotations. Viewers and critics alike are praising the way Fallon’s announced the move of the show.
