Dallas Cowboys running back Joseph Randle was arrested for shoplifting underwear and cologne from a Frisco, Texas mall on Oct. 13.

Dallas Cowboys running back Joseph Randle was arrested and charged with shoplifting on Oct. 13.

According to The Dallas Morning NewsNaheed Rajwani and Brandon George, Randle allegedly stole cologne and underwear at Stonebriar Mall in Frisco, Texas on Monday evening:

“Cowboys running back Joseph Randle was arrested Monday night after Frisco police say he shoplifted a bottle of cologne and a pack of underwear from the Dillard’s at Stonebriar Mall.

“Randle, 22, was booked into the Frisco City Jail on a Class B misdemeanor charge of theft. He was released early Tuesday after posting $3500 bail, police said.

“Randle won’t be suspended by the team, according to sources. He will, however, be fined between $10,000 and $30,000, a source said.

“Randle, who has no previous arrests with the Cowboys, was in team meetings at Valley Ranch on Tuesday. He didn’t make himself available to the media before leaving with a hoodie over his head.

“The Cowboys declined to comment Tuesday. Coach Jason Garrett is expected to address the situation at his regular Wednesday morning news conference.

“Officers were called to the Dillard’s department store at 8:17 p.m. Monday after the store’s loss prevention employees detained Randle at the mall, Frisco police spokeswoman Chad LaPrelle said. Monday is the only day during the week that the team doesn’t practice.

“Police said Randle attempted to steal a two-pack of Polo underwear worth $39.50 and a tester bottle of Gucci Guilty Black cologne valued at $84.

“‘All right, y’all got me,’ was his first thought after his arrest, he told Frisco police, according to his arrest report.

“Randle said he didn’t pay because he didn’t want to take the time to do it and told police he ‘should have just kept walking to his car if he knew he would be arrested,’ the report states.

“According to the police report, the theft was captured on surveillance video. It shows Randle walking to the underwear section and dropping a packet of underwear into a a Dillard’s bag from a previous purchase, police say.

“A security officer — whom Randle referred to as ‘the old guy’ — stopped Randle in the parking lot, and a store manager escorted him back to the store and recovered the items, which were valued at $123.50 before taxes.

“Randle has a base salary of $495,000 for this season. He was drafted by the Cowboys out of Oklahoma State in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL draft.”

ESPN Dallas’ Todd Archer wonders what the Cowboys should do with Randle:

“So now what do the Cowboys do with Randle?

“Garrett was clear with his players that off-field issues are not acceptable. Given the black eye surrounding the NFL from how it handled several high-profile domestic violence cases, should the severity of the crime matter?

“Attempting to pilfer a department store of cologne and underwear while making $495,000 this year is foolish, and Randle will have to live with that stigma.

“Garrett and the Cowboys will have to determine what type of team punishment Randle deserves. They could suspend him for conduct detrimental to the team or simply keep him inactive for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.

“If ‘arrested and charged’ is the standard the Cowboys have set, then they have to follow through with some sort of punishment.”

Randle has rushed for 277 yards and two touchdowns on 70 carries in two seasons with the Cowboys through Oct. 15, per ESPN stats.
