A new song titled The Blacker The Berry was released by none other than rapper Kendrick Lamar, the recent winner of two Grammys.

He has already won two Grammy awards for the coolest rap song and best rap performance. But with the latest soundtrack titled The Blacker The Berry, Kendrick La/3/proved that he is still tough enough to deliver staccato sounds in his rap numbers.

The novel song will probably make an appearance in his new album which is to come out soon. Kendrick La/3/sang a rap song about the Black Experience as witnessed by several millions of displaced Africans.

The Diaspora of the Black Man is no different from the Diaspora of the Jews or Muslims. It is a nation whose people spread outwards into other lands and regions and made their influence felt among the alien cultures.

The song starts on a deep bass note and the heartbeat of the raw and raunchy instinctual intelligence can be felt in every single tone of the melodious tune. There is a short reggae segment somewhere in the mix too. Then Kendrick La/3/really lets it rip by introducing some serious words about the various malaise-like symptoms afflicting the Ebony Experience.

Basically what Kendrick is speaking about is that where he comes from, no matter what achievements get made by Black Americans, be it Michael Jordan’s endorsements, or Black Panthers getting all revolutionary, the fact that a Trayvon Martin dies on the street is enough to make him cry tears of anguish.

For all the soul food he eats such as chicken and watermelon, the coldblooded murder of an innocent Black kid by a White policeman cannot be accounted for. The Blacker The Berry truly resonates with the spirit and soul of Mama Africa (there is no other way of putting the intense love and affection felt for their original homeland by Blacks of every hue and shade).

What Kendrick does is bring in all of history and in the process he even castigates himself for crying hypocritical tears while he himself is to blame for killing members of his own kind. It’s a fact that most gangster rappers end up doing more damage to their own cause and people rather than the enemy.

The refrain “The blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice” rings true in the lyrics. That is because the blood of the Black Man cannot be avenged so easily. The ghosts that will haunt men like the killer of Trayvon Martin cannot be exorcised so easily either.
