Leticia Van de Putte and Patrick had a debate in a live TV show on topics of education and immigration.
The debate was televised all across the nation. Both of them are the Lieutenant governor candidates. Dan Patrick and Leticia Van de Putte had some things to clarify on the live TV debate.
Dan Patrick is supporting the lawmakers which will end up deep cutting the schools. Whereas Leticia is standing up with the Texas students and she said that if we defend the lawmakers, things will burn bad for the Texas students.
Leticia also said that Dan Patrick had votes against our children. Whereas Dan Patrick said that he had safe guarded the people of Texas and now they won’t have to pay more taxes.
He said that the state is already facing a $27 billion hole and this came after the severe recession. Patrick also said that Leticia would surely had increased the taxes whereas he is trying to save the people.
Dan Patrick also said that Leticia is exaggerating the facts and that it wouldn’t be that bad for the students. Both Patrick and Leticia had to talk about taxes, border security, college tuition and those who are in the state illegally.
Both of them also gave their views on gay marriage and abortions. If one of them was to become the Lieutenant governor, they will surely have their way as the governor presides over the Senate and has wide influence on the legislation.
The governor post had been opened for the first time since 2002. Although both Leticia and Patrick used to be friends in the past four legislative sessions, they came on swinging at each other in the TV debate.
Leticia told Dan that he needed a math lesson as the $5.4 billion cut from schools in 2011 was regrettable. She told him that when the budget was cut, 11000 teachers were let go and the size of the classes in the early grades was also decreased. Patrick reminded Leticia that of those 11000 teachers, most of them retired soon after they were laid off.
