LG Display has had a 66.8 percent share in shipments with 8 million units shipping during just the first quarter of thie year
Market research firm DisplaySearch claims that LG Display right now is taking the smartwatch display market by a storm and it is the most prominent name on the setup (at least for now). These findings account for both the revenue generated as well as the total shipments.
For the firstquarter of this year, LG Display was spot on with its figures and sweeped away a market share of 66.8 percent in terms of the units shipped. It had a giant’s share in the revenue as it stood at a whopping 90.9 percent. We understand that a lot of this is because LG has been the sole display supplier for the Apple Watch but apart from that the LG smartwatches have also had a role to play. Considering the LG G Watch and the recent Watch Urbane, LG has done considerably well in the smartwatch sector.
The research firm has further claimed that LG Display was able to bring in revenues worth US$148 million which was 90.9 percent of the share. Falling second was Samsung Display with only 3.1 percent of revenue and other runners up included Japan Display with 2.4 percent of revenues, and Futaba with 1.8 percent.
LG Display has had a 66.8 percent share in shipments with 8 million units shipping during just the first quarter of thie year. All the hype can be explained by the fact that Samsung and LG are the only two display suppliers who deal with plastic-based OLED smartwatch display panels. These displays have become a standard in the smartwatch industry and hence provide an edge to the two companies.
