Liza Minnelli has been admitted to the rehab facility for substance abuse.
The legendary singer and actress Liza Minnelli has been admitted to a rehab facility in Malibu as confirmed by her representative. The 69 year old singer is receiving treatment for substance abuse.
Liza’s representative has revealed that the actress is already making excellent progress. According to her statement to TMZ, Liza Minnelli has battled substance abuse over the years and whenever she has needed treatment she has done so rather than shying away from it.
Moreover the actress is not the only one in her family who has struggled with addiction. Liza’s mother Judy Garland the singer had also struggled with addiction. Ultimately she OD’d in 1969. In an interview with NBC News in 2009 Liza had opened up about her personal battle with alcoholism and her most recent visit to the rehab was in 2004.
She explained in the interview that if you get away from the influence even for a minute you understand that you have a choice. She also stated that this disease is a huge thing and should not be taken for granted and people can fight it with information and clarity.
Back in 2010 the actress was offered half a million to do a reality show called “Celebrity Rehab” but she refused the offer. Apart from this Liza Minnelli is internationally recognized as a cultural and gay icon. She has also won a Best Actress Academy Award in 1973 for her role in Cabaret.
Apart from this the actress has also won three Tony Awards for her Broadway performances and in 1990 Liza was named a Grammy Living Legend. Much acclaimed for her talent she continues to perform and in recent years she has made many guest appearances. Many of these guest appearances were on the television series Arrested Development.
According to many sources the 69 year old actress has at various times been addicted to alcohol, valium, cocaine and even sleeping pills. She had been attending Alcoholics Anonymous regularly for a quite a long time.
