Macy’s is opening the Macy’s Black Friday 2014 sale two hours earlier than last year.

Macy’s confirmed today that the Macy’s Black Friday 2014 Sale in stores starts already at 6pm. As reported a couple days ago, the 6pm start time has already leaked via an internal email. This is two hours earlier than last year. Macy’s is matching now Walmart’s Black Friday sale launch time from last year. This likely means Walmart is moving up their start time. It has been already reported that the Walmart stores will be open all day Thanksgiving Day. 

Macy’s just started last year to “violate” Thanksgiving Day. Now that the ban has been broken anything is possible. The 6pm Black Friday sales launch on Thanksgiving Day is likely the main time, but expect that several retailers will start earlier. The Kmart Black Friday 2014 sale is supposed to already start at 8am on Thanksgiving Day morning.

According to CNN, Macy’s says about the earlier Black Friday 2014 sales launch: “We work diligently to staff Thanksgiving with associates who volunteer to work and doing so means that our people are able to make their own decisions about how they contribute to our most important and busiest weekend of the year,” said Macy’s, in a prepared statement. “We also heard last year from many associates who appreciated the opportunity to work on Thanksgiving so they could have time off on Black Friday.” 

Today the first Black Friday 2014 Ad has been released. A big sign that Black Friday 2014 is starting soon.
