Director Matthew Vaughn will likely direct Fox’s upcoming comic book adaptation “Flash Gordon”.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Mathew Vaughn who has been enjoying the success of recent film Kingsman: The Secret Service, is in negotiations with Twentieth Century Fox for the remake of Flash Gordon. The classic comic strip Flash Gordon was created by legendary artist Alex Raymond and originally published in 1934. The story of the comics revolves around Flash Gordon and his fellow earthlings Dale Arden and Dr. Zarkov who battle with the Ming, evil ruler of Planet Mongo to save the earth from his despot.

Flash Gordon has already appeared several times on both television and big screen. The most memorable of them all is presumably the 1980’s adaptation, in which Sam J. Jones played the lead character of Flash Gordon. John Davis and King Features are the joint producers of the new iteration while script has been written by J Payne and Patrick McCay.

Fox studio had the idea of remaking Flash Gordon almost one year ago and now when they have acquired the rights from the Harvest Corporation, they are looking for a talented director for its remake and Matthew Vaughn certainly appears to be the top contender.
