Memorial Day 2015: Earliest Date, Indy 500, Donald Trump and Sales

It is Memorial Day in the United States today. This year Memorial Day is at the earliest date in /4/this Holiday is celebrated.

Memorial Day is a federal holiday and is observed at the last Monday in May. This year Memorial Day falls on /4/25, the earliest date possible. Memorial Day can be as late as /4/30. Today the American Flag is raised and lowered to half-staff position to honor the fallen man and women. More than one million lost their life in service for the country.

While there is a sad and somber background for Memorial Day there are lighter traditions like parades and Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 races. The Indy 500 took place yesterday and Juan Pablo Montoya won. The 39-year-old former Formula One driver scored his second Indy 500. His first win lies an incredible 15 years in the past. The Coca-Cola 600 was won by Carl Edwards.

Infamous Billionaire Donald Trump has sent out the most favorited Memorial Day 2015 wish on Twitter. He wrote: “I would like to wish everyone, including all haters and losers (of which, sadly, there are many) a truly happy and enjoyable Memorial Day!” Looks like he had a bad day.

Another tradition on Memorial Day are sales. Many people hit the mall this weekend and stores have advertised multi-day Memorial Day sales events ahead of the weekend including electronics retailer Best Buy. The highlight in the 4-Day Best Buy Memorial Day Sale is a $1 iPhone 5S from Sprint with a free $100 gift card. Another hot deal is $150 off an Apple MacBook Air.

Walmart’s Memorial Day sale focuses on pools and patio gear. Macy’s celebrates Memorial Day with an extra 20% off everything sale.

As any long weekend the Memorial Day weekend is a big event at the movie theaters. The Memorial Day 2015 box office has been won by Disney’s Tomorrowland with $32 million at the domestic box office. Pitch Perfect 2 ranked second with $30 million in its second weekend, almost taking the crown from Tomorrowland. Mad Max: Fury Road comes in on third.
