Mercedes-Benz to Install Apple's CarPlay in Older Vehicles This Year

Mercedes is reportedly planning to bring Apple’s new CarPlay facility in older Mercedes-Benz vehicles using after market installation solution.

Mercedes is being extra-kind to its buyers who didn’t have CarPlay installed in their older models. Now they won’t have to purchase a spanking new vehicle just for the sake of getting a CarPlay software fixture. Previous versions will be featuring the exciting amenity by the year 2015.

Apple’s CarPlay feature has received amalgamated reviews up until now. It is an iOS structured approach that allows applications that show the driver a selection of cars while he or she is seated in the vehicle. The only glitch until now was the functioning of CarPlay in various different means of transport.

Each car manufacturer used unique touch screen technology which created hurdles in the way of employing CarPlay. And add to that the fact that a very few new models feature this exciting operating system and you have a problem in the making. That is why the Mercedes-Benz company decided to offer aftermarket installations on its past car models.

9to5Mac confirmed that “at least Mercedes-Benz is looking into aftermarket installations of CarPlay that will allow older models of vehicles to access the feature. The company confirmed that it is trying to get an “an after-market solution for previous cars” and hopes to have it on the market by the end of the year. While there is no info yet on how the aftermarket installation would work, we’d imagine it will be a dealer installed accessory for select older models like Honda and others already offer for Apple’s Siri Eyes Free feature.”

The deadline for this good change is the end of this year. Then everyone who owns a Mercedes will get to enjoy the luxury of CarPlay. CarPlay comes courtesy of Apple Incorporated. And the good news is that Apple is reaching out to other car companies and trying to persuade them to follow suit.

Volvo and Ferrari are just two among the lot. BMW, Ford, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Kia, Nissan, Subaru, Suzuki and Toyota are the rest of those on the waiting list. The integration of CarPlay in older vehicles will be a source of extreme happiness for drivers. CarPlay works in tandem with BlackBerry’s QNX car platform.

Ultimately, the unification of functions and software is something which must be decided by all the parties concerned after putting their heads together. And we all know that two heads are better than one.
