The Santa Barbara Film Festival announced that Michael Keaton gets the Modern Master Award.

63-year-old Michael Keaton has critics raving for his new movie Birdman. Birdman opened limited last weekend. It had a great opening weekend for a limited release. We will see how it does when it goes wide. Michael Keaton can already reap one award for the his performance.

The Santa Barbara Film Festival 2015 will honor the actor with the Modern Master Award. The 30th edition of the SBFF festival is running January 27-February 7, 2015.

The Modern Master Award is the highest honor presented by the Santa Barbara Film Festival is handing out. The Modern Master Award it has been awarded to actors including Ben Affleck, Jodie Foster, Diane Keaton, George Clooney, Jodie Foster, Will Smith and Clint Eastwood.

“There is no actor more befitting of the Modern Master Award than the legendary Michael Keaton. His performance in ‘Birdman’ is tremendous, showing the range of decade’s long experience,” exec director Roger Durling said in a statement published on The Variety.

The Modern Master Award is likely not the only award Keaton will be receiving for his performance in Birdman. Will an Oscar be in the cards? Maybe.

In Birdman or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance Keaton plays a washed-up actor who once played an iconic superhero must overcome his ego and family trouble as he mounts a Broadway play in a bid to reclaim his past glory.

Birdman is directed by Alejandro Iñárritu, and also starring Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton, Andrea Riseborough, Amy Ryan, Emma Stone, and Naomi Watts.
