Microsoft HoloLens Set to Free Us from Computer Screens

Microsoft appears to be on to something with the HoloLens. No other Virtual Reality product looks more promising in succeeding in the mass market than HoloLens.

Microsoft made big strides since it first revealed a demo of its virtual reality project HoloLens. The reveal of HoloLens earlier this year got people excited. At the Build 2015 developer conference Microsoft unveiled more details of HoloLens, especially the hardware.

The HoloLens glasses are packed with sensors and there is a computer inside that is more powerful than a standard laptop. This means all you need to experience and work with holograms in your living room or office is inside the HoloLens glasses. Microsoft did put a lot of innovation in there, but its still a bit too big and clunky. HoloLens is though already smaller than for instance the Oculus Rift full VR goggles. Microsoft also demoed what a the Architecture house Trimble developed with HoloLens. Doug Brent, Trimble’s vice president of technology innovation says about HoloLens: “I’ve seen a lot of these new things come and go,” but HoloLens is different. “I expect within five years we’ll all be interacting with the world with this kind of technology.”

Microsoft is about to bring more developer in to create solutions for HoloLens. When consumers will be able to buy HoloLens is not clear yet. Microsoft HoloLens could be the future of computer interface that frees us from the screens.
